History
MeteoGroup UK started life as PA WeatherCentre in 1997. PA WeatherCentre was a joint venture between The Press Association and Meteo Consult, an established weather forecasting company which was founded in 1986 in the Netherlands by Harry Otten, a leading Dutch TV weather presenter.
PA WeatherCentre combined the meteorological skills of Meteo Consult with the packaging and delivery skills of The Press Association. Originally focusing on supplying weather forecasts for newspapers it has expanded rapidly, now supplying forecasts to a wide range of clients, including those in the Road, Rail, Energy and Sports sectors.
In May 2005 the PA Group, which includes the Press Association, acquired a majority shareholding in Meteo Consult B.V. This acquisition further broadened PA Group’s portfolio of diversified information services for international markets and, with PA Group’s backing, we are focused on accelerating our growth into new markets.
In 2005 the Meteo Consult group, which also includes business in Germany, Spain, Belgium and the USA as well as in the UK and the Netherlands, was re-branded as MeteoGroup, bringing together all the businesses under a single brand, emphasising the scale and scope of it’s activities, not just in Europe, but worldwide. PA WeatherCentre has therefore been re-branded as MeteoGroup UK, a name which we hope will become associated with quality forecasting across the UK and beyond.
In 2008 MeteoGroup UK was awarded ISO 9001:2000 certification, an internationally recognised quality standard developed by the International Organisation for Standardisation.
This provides an international reference for quality management requirements and is an important mark of MeteoGroup's firm commitment to outstanding levels of client service. It demonstrates the company's efficient working procedures and reflects the dedication to the delivery of continually improving products and services.
