MeteoGroup’s specialised service for shipping companies, SPOS, is a simple but powerful on board software tool. Enabling users to access the latest weather forecast, SPOS includes detailed charts with wind, sea and swell forecasts together with hurricane/typhoon forecasts and actual ice information.

In addition, the system can calculate a tailor made optimum route for each vessel, based on ship specific data entered into the system by the master. Operational criteria or restrictions can also be taken into account, providing a flexible tool for optimising vessel performance.

A unique quality of SPOS is that it combines two elements which are often contradictory: it saves money by increasing vessel performance and increases safety for crew, vessel and cargo by avoiding heavy weather.
