    Today (Tuesday): Cold with a biting wind in the south and east. Dry in Northern Ireland and western Scotland with plenty of winter sunshine. Elsewhere, sunny spells and scattered sleet and snow showers, mainly across east Wales, south and east England.

    Tonight (Tuesday night): Overnight, southern Scotland and eastern parts of England will see some clear spells, but also some wintry showers moving south, these especially along the coasts. Northern Scotland will see a mixture of clear spells and a few scattered sleet or snow showers. Northern Ireland will be mainly dry with patches of mist developing during the early hours. Elsewhere across Britain, it looks set to be a mostly dry and clear night with just a little cloud and the odd shower for central parts. A widespread frost.

    UK Outlook (Wednesday and Thursday): Wednesday will be very cold with a sharp frost. Sunny spells in the north and west. Wintry showers spreading west across central and eastern England, turning increasingly to snow in the south-east. Thursday will be bright with sunny spells in Northern Ireland and the south-west of Scotland. Elsewhere, fairly cloudy with a scattering of snow showers in eastern areas of the UK, south-west England, the west Midland and eastern parts of Wales. A rather windy day for England and Wales.
